Battleship Game Rules
Game Components
- Game Boards: Two 10×10 grids per player
- Ocean grid for ship placement
- Targeting grid for tracking shots
- Ships: Five ships per player
- Carrier (5 spaces)
- Battleship (4 spaces)
- Cruiser (3 spaces)
- Submarine (3 spaces)
- Destroyer (2 spaces)
- Peg Markers:
- White pegs for misses
- Red pegs for hits
Setup
Players secretly place their five ships on their ocean grid with these rules:
- Ships can be placed horizontally or vertically
- Ships cannot be placed diagonally
- Ships cannot overlap
- Ships must stay within grid boundaries
Gameplay
Basic Mechanics:
- Players take turns calling out coordinates to attack (e.g., “B7”)
- The opponent responds with “hit” or “miss”
- Hits are marked with red pegs
- Misses are marked with white pegs
- Players track shots on their targeting grid
Sinking Ships:
- A ship is sunk when all of its spaces are hit
- The player must announce when a ship is sunk
- Traditionally, players say “You sank my battleship!”
Winning the Game
The first player to sink all five of their opponent’s ships wins
Optional Variations
- Salvo: Players get shots equal to their remaining ships
- Fog of War: Players don’t specify which ship was hit
- Special Weapons: Add unique targeting rules
