Yahtzee Rules
Game Setup
- Players: 2-4 players recommended
- Equipment: 5 dice and a Yahtzee scorecard for each player
- Determine first player by rolling dice and selecting highest total
Gameplay
In each round, a player has three dice rolls to create the best possible scoring combination:
- First roll: Roll all 5 dice
- Second and third rolls: Player can choose to:
- Keep some dice and re-roll others
- Stop rolling and score
- Continue rolling up to a total of 3 rolls
Scoring Categories
The scorecard has two sections:
Upper Section
- Ones: Sum of all 1s rolled
- Twos: Sum of all 2s rolled
- Threes: Sum of all 3s rolled
- Fours: Sum of all 4s rolled
- Fives: Sum of all 5s rolled
- Sixes: Sum of all 6s rolled
- Bonus: 35 points if Upper Section total reaches 63 or more
Lower Section
- Three of a Kind: Sum of all dice if three are the same
- Four of a Kind: Sum of all dice if four are the same
- Full House: 25 points for three of one number and two of another
- Small Straight: 30 points for four consecutive dice
- Large Straight: 40 points for five consecutive dice
- Yahtzee: 50 points for five of the same number
- Chance: Sum of all dice
Winning
- After 13 rounds, players total their scores
- Highest total score wins
- In case of a tie, all tied players share the victory
Key Rules
- Each category can be used only once per game
- Players must score something in a category each round, even if it means scoring zero
- Strategy involves maximizing points across different categories
